Bedding & Down
What is the difference between Percale, Sateen and Linen?
Percale sheets are cool, crisp, and classic. The one thread under and one over weave creates a lovely matte finish. Sateen is created using a weave of one yarn under and 3 or 4 over, giving the finished sheet a beautiful sheen and a slightly thicker feel. Linen, woven from flax as opposed to cotton, has a breathable feel and a gorgeous relaxed look.
To learn more about the specific characteristics of each of our sheeting fabrics visit https://www.matouk.com/shop-sheeting-qualities
What is thread count?
Thread count is defined as the number of threads per one square inch of sheeting. This means for a 500 thread count sheet, there are 500 threads in every square inch of fabric on that sheet. We carry a wide range of sheeting fabrics from 350 thread count up to 1,000 thread count. Thread count is often assumed to be the most important metric when purchasing a sheet, however, it is only one indicator of quality, as the better the fiber used to create the threads, the more comfortable and durable your sheets will be. The majority of our fabrics come from extra long-staple certified cotton, known for its superior quality, or Giza Egyptian, the very finest cotton.
How do I know what type of sheeting fabric is best for me?
Percale and linen are recommended for those who tend to get hot when they sleep as these two fabrics are breathable and cool.
Sateen can trap heat a little more than percale, so for those who tend to get chilly at night, sateen can be a wonderful option to add a little extra warmth without more weight.
Find a sheeting fabric weight and feel that's right for you by visiting our Shop by Sheeting Fabric page. We also offer complimentary swatches for most of our bedding which can allow you to feel the fabric before you purchase.
Our very knowledgeable customer care team is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your specific needs; just email customercare@matouk.com or utilize our chat service and we will be happy to provide assistance.
Do your sheets wrinkle?
While we do offer our Positano Hemstitch style for a wrinkle resistant poly/cotton blend, most of our sheeting is 100% cotton and will wrinkle. To minimize the wrinkles, it can help to take your bedding out of the dryer just a few minutes before the end of the cycle. For sheets that are completely smooth we recommend ironing as needed.
What standard mattress sizes does your bedding fit?
The standard width x length of each bed are as follows:
California King: 72 x 84;
King: 76-78 x 80;
Queen: 60 x 80;
Full: 54 x 75;
Twin: 39 x 75;
XL Twin: 39 x 80.
*Depth of mattress will vary.
Where can I find the dimensions of a specific product?
Please refer to the 'Dimensions' tab at the top of a product page or within a product's pop-up window if you are browsing by style.
What is the depth of your fitted sheets?
Our standard pocket size for fitted sheets is 17" and this will fit mattresses up to around 15" deep.
We do have some 14" Low profile fitted sheets (recommended for beds up to 12" deep) available in select options as a stocked size.
To measure the height of your mattress, please take a ruler, or measuring tape and go to the side or corner of your mattress. Measure from the bottom of the mattress to the top, and you'll get the height of your mattress.
We always recommend getting a fitted sheet at least a couple of inches deeper than your mattress, as that will give you the best fit and security with your sheet.
In most of our styles we can make custom pocket depths to order, for questions about custom sizes, please email customercare@matouk.com for assistance.
Do you offer fitted sheets for a Split King mattress?
We offer Twin XL fitted sheets in a select assortment to accommodate Split King mattresses. You can find these available in our Milano, Luca, Sierra, and Positano sheeting qualities. We also offer Twin XL sizing in our Foundation mattress pad. Our Twin XL fitted sheet & mattress pad only work with Split King mattresses (two individual Twin XL mattresses side by side on a King frame) that do not have the flex top with a connected bottom.
Can I order bedding for a custom mattress size?
We can create custom sizes for most of our products. Send our Customer Care team the measurements you need as well as the style that you're interested in to customercare@matouk.com for assistance.
What is the difference between a sham and a pillowcase?
A sham is a decorative pillow cover usually finished with a flange and an opening in the back; shams are recommended as decorative pieces for the bed. For this reason, shams can be made of sheeting or a heavier fabric like a matelassé. A pillowcase on the other hand is a standard pillow cover that has one open end and is generally used on sleeping pillows. Pillowcases are almost always made of sheeting.
What sizes of shams and pillowcases do you carry and what are the dimensions of each?
Our shams and pillowcases come in a variety of sizes:
Standard sham: 21 x 27;
King sham: 21 x 36;
European sham: 27 x 27;
Oversize Euro: 27 x 36;
Boudoir sham: 12 x 16;
Neckroll sham: 6 x 12;
Standard pillowcase: 21 x 32;
King pillowcase: 21 x 41.
How many pillow shams and pillowcases do I put on a bed?
The number of pillows on a bed is determined by the size of your bed, as well as your own personal preference. We recommend using three Euro shams, two King pillowcases, two King shams and two Boudoir shams for king-size beds. For queen-size beds, we recommend two Euro shams, two Standard pillowcases, two Standard shams, and one Boudoir sham. For twin-size beds, we recommend, one Euro sham, one Standard pillowcase or one Standard sham, and one Boudoir sham.
Are pillowcases and pillow shams sold individually or in pairs?
Our Pillowcases are almost always sold as pairs and single pillowcases will be noted in their item description. Pillow shams are always sold as individual items, and neither pillowcases nor pillow shams include inserts.
What are the differences between a duvet cover, a coverlet and a quilt?
A duvet cover is the protective and often decorative piece that is slipped over a comforter. Coverlets are typically made in pique or matelassé fabric and go over the top of the flat sheet or over your blanket. Quilts may be used instead of a coverlet. Quilts are stitched with a layer of light batting inside, giving them a plush feel.
Do your duvet covers have corner ties?
All of our duvet covers are made with inside corner ties. And all of our comforters include corner loops so that you can secure your duvet cover to your comforter to prevent shifting.
Do your duvet covers have button or zipper closure?
All of our duvet covers include hidden zipper closures.
What is the best way to style my bed to include a blanket or coverlet?
There are a few ways to style a blanket on the bed. Blankets layer nicely between a top sheet and a duvet. When you fold down the top sheet, you can fold the blanket down with it. If you are utilizing a duvet and want to show the blanket, fold the duvet back in half.
You can also fold a blanket and lay it across the bottom of the bed. This will add visual interest as well as provide easy access to pull the blanket up for additional warmth as needed.
Another option is to lay a blanket on top of the top sheet and let this be the finishing layer of the bed. This can create a minimal look and can also be quite practical if the blanket is all the warmth you need. Depending on the type of bed frame you have, the blanket can look great tucked in on three sides or left untucked.
Are your bed skirts lined?
We do not line our bed skirts.
What is the difference between a bed skirt with decking and one with panels?
Decking is a piece of material that holds the three bed skirt side panels together and lays flat between the box spring or bedframe and the mattress. It does not require any attachments.
A bed skirt that is paneled comes in three individual pieces which are held up by pins that we supply with the bed skirt, and can easily be adjusted and removed. Because of the pins, we do not recommend bed skirt panels in homes with small children or pets.
What types of customization do you offer?
We can customize many different elements on most of our bedding styles, including trim or embroidery color, fabric choice, and flange sizes. While there are some items that aren't able to be customized, we will strive to help you create something that will meet your vision. Set up an appointment with our House of Matouk advisors or email our Customer Care team at customercare@matouk.com to discover all of the possibilities.
Where can I learn more about your down collection?
To view more information about our down collection, please visit our Down page. You'll be able to view our full offering, view recommendations depending on your sleeping style and environment, care instructions, and information about the sourcing of our down.
What is the best way to care for my bed linens?
Care instructions vary by item, so it is always best to check the care label sewn onto your Matouk product or review this information on the product page on Matouk.com. This will ensure the best results to keep your products looking and feeling wonderful for years to come.
Will my bedding shrink?
We make most of our items oversized to account for shrinkage upon washing and drying per the care instructions. We recommend that you launder your bedding before use, but please be sure to use the recommended temperature settings on the care label to prevent damage and unanticipated shrinking.
How do I see what style I have if I want to reorder the same ?
If you've purchased items on Matouk.com after October, 13th 2026 while logged in, just sign into your account on Matouk.com once more and you'll be able to view your previous purchases. For older orders, please email the Customer Care team for your previous order information.

Bath
What type of towel fabrics do you offer?
We offer a wide range of 100% cotton terry fabrics, crafted from super soft zero-twist yarns, to more traditional double-twists. Our towels offer unique textures, patterns, and colors, as well as embroidery details. All our towels are available for embroidered monogramming.
What does gsm mean and why is this important when buying towels?
GSM stands for grams per square meter and is the measurement used for the density or weight of fabric; the higher the GSM, the heavier the towel.
What does zero twist mean?
Zero-twist towels are so called because instead of being twisted, their high-quality cotton fibers are held together with a special wrapping thread, allowing them to be woven without breaking. The wrapping is removed after weaving, leaving the cotton staple in its naturally soft, thick state, and the result is wonderfully plush, light, and absorbent. Matouk’s best-selling Milagro towel, as well as our Aman towel, are made from long-staple, zero-twist cotton yarns, making both extremely absorbent and plush.
How do I know what type of towel is right for me?
Choosing the right towel for you depends on your preferences for a towel's design, weight, and texture. Do you prefer a very lightweight towel that will dry quickly? Milagro or Aman may be your preferred options. Do you gravitate toward a heavier but soft towel? Consider Lotus for a really luxurious feel. Perhaps you prefer a towel with a piped edge and a loop for easy hanging, consider Cairo which is the base towel for many of our bath styles. Consider what elements are most important to you in choosing your bath linens, and feel free to use our chat function for product recommendations.
What size towels should I buy?
The typical bathroom often contains bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths. If you prefer an oversized towel, a bath sheet is a good option instead of a standard bath towel.
Which of your towels have hanging loops?
Our Astor Braid, Bel Tempo, Cairo, Cairo Scallop, Classic Chain, Daphne, Ellis, Enzo, Francisco, Giza, Gordian Knot, Jasmine Giza, Jasper, Mirasol, Newport, Regine, and Whipstitch towels include hanging loops.
What are Guest towels and Fingertip towels?
Guest towels, also sometimes called Fingertip towels, are often used in a guest bathroom. They are smaller than hand towels, making them excellent for powder rooms as well.
What are the differences between a tub mat, bath mat and bath rug?
Tub Mats (or bath mats as they're commonly known) are made of towel material, and placed typically right at the edge of the tub or shower. These are absorbent and designed to soak up water as you exit the shower or bath. We offer many tub mats in both non-quilted and quilted options; both will feel like the terry of your towels, and do not include a non-slip backing. A tub mat can be easily picked up and hung to dry between uses.
Bath rugs are much plusher and somewhat decorative. Bath rugs are sometimes placed directly at the edge of the tub, but they may also be used in the middle of the bathroom or in front of the sinks. Bath rugs, tend to be plusher, are generally larger in size, and most have non-slip backing on the reverse side.
Do your bath rugs have rubber backing?
Our Giza, Lotus, Milagro, Reverie, Adelphi, Bel Tempo, Classic Chain, Costas, Daphne, Keiko, Ellis, Regine, and Francisco bath rugs feature silicone non-slip backing. The silicone backing helps to keep your rug in place and does not require any special laundering. Our remaining bath rugs (Guesthouse and Marco) do not have rubber backing.
Do your shower curtains have button holes or grommets?
All of our shower curtains and liners have button holes.
How do I know what size Robe to purchase?
We offer size charts in the description section of all of our robes. Most of our robes do tend to run on the larger size for maximum comfort, so if you're between sizes, we recommend sizing down.
What is the best way to care for my bath products?
Care instructions vary by item, so it is always best to check the care label sewn onto your Matouk product or review this information on the product page on Matouk.com. This will ensure the best results to keep your products looking and feeling wonderful for years to come.
Table & Accessories
How do I select the right size table cloth for my table?
The first step is to measure your table. Round tables should measure the diameter, while oval tables measure to the longest point for the length and the width, and then rectangular tables just use the length and width. If your table has an extension that you often use, but you only want one tablecloth, make sure you measure with the leaf in so that you have the correct length for your party settings.
Next, you need to determine how much drop you'd prefer on any given side. For more formal tables you might want a 14" drop while a casual look may be just fine with an 8" drop. If you're unsure of the best drop size, consider putting a big piece of fabric over your table, like a flat sheet or blanket, and determine the length you'd prefer.
Take the drop size you've determined that you like and double it, add that number to the length and the width, and select the tablecloth size that most closely matches your desired measurements.
Example: Table Measurements 46"W x 84" L, desired drop is 12", 12*2=24. 46+24=70" x 84+24=108". Select Tablecloth 70"W x 108" L.
How do I select the right silencer pad for my table?
Silencer padding should be a little smaller than the size of the tablecloth. Follow the measurement instructions in the previous question to get the correct tablecloth measurement, and then select the size smaller for the silencer padding. For example, the tablecloth we selected above was 70"W x 108" L, you would select a 68"W x 106" L silencer for this tablecloth. You can also choose a smaller drop size on the silencer padding if you'd prefer. so a 59"W x 100"L silencer pad would work as well.
Which style of throws fit a king size bed?
The majority of our throws are 70" in length, and look good casually styled on a king bed. However, several are a bit longer and are well suited for covering the entire width of a king bed, which is typically 76" across. Our Cadiz and Helix throws are both 78" long and our Cleo throw is 80" making them the best choices to lay across a king bed. Leo is an oversized throw at 90" long that would be great for extra coverage.
Which style throw works best as a wrap?
While all of our throws are certainly large enough to snuggle under, our Poncho and Como 360 throws may make the best wraps for you.
Is there a specific brand of tissue boxes that best fit your tissue box covers?
We have found that Kleenex brand tissues, specifically those measuring 4.5" x 4.375" x 5", tend to be the best fit for our tissue box covers.
Will tissue box covers shrink when I wash them?
Our tissue box covers are ever so slightly oversized to account for shrinking if washed, but they are absolutely able to be used right out of the package. If you do need to wash the tissue box cover, we recommend line drying for the best results.
Can I do a custom monogram or logo on my Mini Pillow?
We are able to embroider existing logos and monograms. While we do not design custom monograms from scratch, we can take your existing design and bring it to life with embroidery or applique. For more information and a custom quote, please reach out to our House of Matouk or Customer Care Teams at customercare@matouk.com for your monogram needs.
Do the Mini Pillows come with an insert?
Mini Pillows do not include an insert. You can purchase the inserts separately in either of our Libero or Montreux decorative pillow styles. Simply select the boudoir size for the correct fit.
What is the best way to care for my table linens and accessories?
Care instructions vary by item, so it is always best to check the care label sewn onto your Matouk product or review this information on the product page on Matouk.com. This will ensure the best results to keep your products looking and feeling wonderful for years to come.
Caring for Your Products
What are the care instructions for your linens?
Proper care will help preserve and give long life to your beautiful linens. Please refer to the “Care” section of each product page for specific care instructions. Each item that we make will also have a care label sewn into the seam for reference over time.
In general, it is best to use cold or warm water when washing fine linens to avoid shrinkage and excessive wrinkling. Never use fabric softeners, bleach, or bleach alternatives. Tumble dry with warm heat, until linens are slightly damp or just barely dry, and remove promptly. Do not overstuff the washer or dryer when washing your linens, as this is more likely to cause wrinkles. Overdrying will lead to wrinkles being set into the fabric and difficult to iron.
Be aware that certain facial creams and body lotions contain peroxide or other agents that can cause discoloration. If your linens come into contact with one of these products, you may see an immediate color change, or it may not appear until after laundering. Once discoloration has occurred, it is permanent, so use caution when selecting products that may come into contact with towels or bedding.
What is the best way to store linens when not being used?
If you plan on storing your linens, iron them and make sure they are stored flat in a dry environment. Make certain that they are not exposed to direct sunlight to avoid color fading.
Do your fabrics shrink?
Shrinkage will happen with any item made from natural fibers such as cotton. The shrinkage amount will range from 2-10%, depending on the fabric. Our items are made to allow for these shrinkage amounts so that after washing the items will fit perfectly to their listed dimensions. We recommend washing our linens prior to first use.
Do I need to launder my linens before using them?
It is always best to wash your linens before use, and since our items are slightly oversized for shrinkage washing them first will give you the intended and best fit.
Do you recommend ironing your linens?
Ironing your linens is a personal preference, but you certainly can do so for a more tailored look. In addition to getting wrinkles out, ironing can help keep your applique and flanges in place. One trick we like to use for the flat sheet is to just iron the part that is being folded back and is visible.
What detergent do you recommend?
Although we have some favorites in the detergent aisle, our best recommendation is to choose a well-rounded detergent that's not only effective but also matches your personal preferences when it comes to ingredients, scent, environmental impact, price, and type. We also recommend using only laundry detergents that do not have bleach or brighteners.
Can I use laundry detergent pods?
Yes, you can use pods. Carefully follow the instructions on the detergent package. Be sure to place the pod at the bottom of the washer before putting in your linens; the cause of liquid laundry pods not dissolving is improper use, like adding them on top of the linens. The pod needs as much contact with water as possible in order for its outer film to dissolve.
Can I use dryer sheets?
While dryer sheets can help to add a fresh scent to your linens they can also shorten the lifespan of your linens. The chemicals in dryer sheets can break down the fibers in your sheets and towels, causing them to wear out more quickly. We recommend using reusable dryer balls in place of a traditional dryer sheet.
Does the PH level of my water affect how my towels launder?
High PH levels can lead to hard water which may cause buildup or discoloration of your towels over time. The use of a high-quality, low-PH detergent and washing in warm water can help eliminate hard water build-up.
What is the best way to remove a stain?
In general, flushing a stain with water is the best technique. Make certain that you have enough water to thoroughly flow through the stain. Avoid rubbing the stain without enough water, as this may cause damage to the fabric. Making a paste or using a concentrated solution of detergent will help to remove a stain. When working on a stain, it is best to dab it with a very wet cloth, and then flush it with water. It’s always a good idea to place a white terrycloth towel or a paper towel underneath the stain to absorb what comes out.

Custom & Monogramming
Can I customize my linens?
Yes, we are able to customize your linens in a number of ways. For additional monogram and custom options, please connect with our House of Matouk advisors or reach out to our Customer Care team at customercare@matouk.com.
Where can I see your custom tape, trim and thread colors?
Our tape and thread charts are not currently available online, however, if you utilize our House of Matouk or Customer Care team, our seasoned advisors can help provide detail about your thread and tape color options and send you swatches.
Can I request a sample of the fabric, thread, or tape before ordering?
Complimentary swatches are available to order for most Bed and select Table products. Select your swatches on each style or product page. There is a limit of 10 swatches per order. At this time we only swatch our Bed and Table products. Should you need further assistance with other categories, please reach out to us via email or chat.
Do you offer monogramming?
Select monogram styles can be ordered directly on our website on our product or style pages. For additional monogram options, including applique monogram and custom options, please connect with our Customer Care and House of Matouk teams for assistance.
What's the difference between Embroidery and Applique monograms?
Embroidered monograms are made using an embroidery technique that uses only thread. Applique monograms use a technique where fabric is first cut out to create the monogram and then it is embroidered with thread to secure it to the item being monogrammed. On our website, we currently only offer embroidered monograms, but if you contact our Customer Care or House of Matouk teams you can also order our applique monograms.
Can you monogram my personal logo or family crest?
Yes, we offer personalized monogram services through our House of Matouk and Customer Care teams. In order to utilize this service you will need to have an image of the logo or family crest; we do not design custom monograms from scratch. Please reach out to us via email at customercare@matouk.com for assistance.

Sustainability
What is OEKO-TEX?
OEKO-TEX (pronounced Oh-Koh-Tex) is a consortium of independent research institutes in Europe and Japan with a mission of creating trust in the production of textiles through product safety, sustainable production, and transparency in sourcing. OEKO-TEX has created several certification protocols that are recognized in the home textile industry, including STeP (Sustainable Textile Production), which aim to hold the industry accountable to high standards for ethical conduct, social responsibility, and environmental practices.
What does STeP by OEKO-TEX mean?
STeP stands for “Sustainable Textile Production'' and is a certification system for textile manufacturers who are prepared to hold themselves accountable for meeting world-class standards for sustainability and social responsibility. STeP producers must achieve independently audited excellence in all of the following categories: environmental performance and management, health and safety in the workplace, chemical management, quality management, and general social responsibility. We are proud to say that our Matouk factory in Fall River, Massachusetts, is one out of only a handful of STeP certified textile manufacturing facilities in the United States.
Which Matouk products are manufactured in your OEKO-TEX STeP certified facility?
All products made in Fall River, Massachusetts are manufactured in our OEKO-TEX STeP certified facility. Some of our most popular items made in the Matouk factory there include signature bed linens such as Bergamo, Ansonia, India, and Butterfield, and our iconic Cairo towel collection. The majority of Matouk Schumacher bed and table linens are also made in Fall River.
Does Matouk use organically grown fibers in any of its products?
Many studies have shown that there are far more companies claiming organic cotton in their products than there is organic cotton being produced. At this point in time, Matouk does not use organically grown fibers which is a deliberate decision by our sustainability team, even though we recognize that synthetic pesticides can be harmful to the environment. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to validate the authenticity of worldwide organic cotton production. As a company committed to sustainability, we will only pursue initiatives where we have 100% confidence in the beneficial impact on the planet. For this reason, we have invested in solar energy, reduction in waste, access to safe drinking water, and making our production facilities as green as possible through OEKO-TEX STeP certified sustainability practices.
