There’s no more storied destination for a glamorous end-of-winter getaway than Palm Beach, the well-heeled Florida resort town where the East Coast glitterati escapes from December through March. For over 80 years, Pioneer Linens has been furnishing the area’s homes and yachts with luxury bedding, bath, and tabletop products befitting of their equally gilded surroundings. We talked to Alan Murphy Jr., a son of Palm Beach and part of the fourth generation of the Pioneer Linens family, about living like a local in the town whose motto is “The Best of Everything.”

Best thing about Palm Beach this time of year? Being able to wear shorts and hang out outside while everyone else is snowed in.

Favorite seasonal tradition? Polo during the winter season.

The perfect day in Palm Beach? Going to the Green Market in Downtown West Palm Beach and then brunch at Testa’s in Palm Beach, followed by a bicycle ride on the bike path on the island all with my beautiful wife, Erin.

Spot only a local would know about? The Brass Ring Pub. It’s a total local joint—dark with no windows. The place is known for having the coldest beer in Palm Beach. Give me a beer and a burger and I’m all set.

"Hot” restaurant that lives up to the hype? Jade Kitchen in Northwood. Great food and the owner will do tables in the kitchen, which is fun.

Favorite all-time area restaurant? Kahootz Draft House in Okeechobee, FL [about an hour from Palm Beach]. It’s a great small-town restaurant with amazing frog’s legs.

Favorite shop (besides Pioneer Linens, of course)? Current men’s shop in Winter Park, Florida.

"Classic" Palm Beach fashion uniform? Shorts, no ties, and bright colors for the guys. Lots of bright prints for the women.

Favorite rainy day activity (not that in rains in Palm Beach!)? I always like to visit the Historical Society.

Bestselling Matouk product at Pioneer Linens? Lowell bedding, for sure.

Biggest trend in luxury linens? Bright solid colors with custom embellishments.

Best part about being a part of your family’s business? Continuing and growing what my family has built. I would like to as serve as the curator for the next generation.
